Thanks for your interest in working with Blinds and Borders.
We are hiring for a role that will require carpentry and drywall skills as well as customer facing skills.
We will entertain two arrangements:
1. Initially part time W2 with the goal is to turn it into a full time position.
2. Contract work, paid by the job.
About the company
Blinds and Borders is primarily a Window Treatments company.
Started in 1997, the team currently consists of two full time and two part time folks. We put the experience of our customer at the center of everything we do.
We are expanding into a new product offering and are seeking the right person to grow with us.
About the role
We are looking to expand our product offering and need a service-minded professional who has mad carpentry and drywall skills.
We install premium decorative wall panels in residential homes and businesses across Huntsville/Madison and surrounding areas. This is finish-level work—precise layout, clean cuts, tight seams, and a jobsite that looks better when you leave than when you arrived.
This installer will also be the face of Blinds and Borders in our customers’ homes. Great customer service is non-negotiable.
Primary Job Functions
- Install decorative wall panels (measure, layout, cut, fit, fasten, finish)
- Prep walls as needed (should be minimal)
- Protect the home: (floors, furniture, dust control, clean-up)
- Communicate clearly with homeowners (what you’re doing, timelines, expectations)
- Maintain quality standards: (treat each client as a VIP)
- Take simple “before/after” photos for job documentation
- Assist the team where needed
You’re a great fit if you…
- Have experience in finish carpentry, drywall finishing, trim, or paneling
- Can deliver a “showroom finish” (precise cuts, clean seams, crisp edges)
- Are dependable: show up on time, communicate, and protect our reputation
- Are comfortable working in occupied homes and interacting professionally
- Can problem-solve on-site without drama
- Approach every job with a service minded perspective, seeking to provide each and every client with the very best experience possible.
Required
- Demonstrable experience in one or more: finish carpentry / trim / drywall finishing / paneling
- Valid driver’s license + reliable vehicle
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, use ladders, and work on your feet
- Must pass background check (customers’ homes)
- Exceptional verbal & written communication skills
- Eager to work as part of a team
Strongly preferred
- Prior experience with decorative wall panels, slat panels, wainscoting, board-and-batten, or feature walls
- Laser level proficiency
- Strong portfolio photos (even from your phone)
Compensation
$22.00 - $30.00 per hour, or by the project.
For the wage range, where you fall in this range depends on things like, robustness of portfolio, experience, how independently you are able to work.
This role will start part-time. You’ll be guaranteed 1 full day of work a week. Our intent is to turn this into a full-time role.
This may be a great fit if…
- You are looking for a consistent, but part-time role
- Are reliable and committed
- Longer term goal is to join a small team permanently
This is not a fit if…
- You are unreliable
- You cannot communicate clearly, articulately, and kindly in written and verbally
- Do not take direction well
- Unwilling to hear feedback and/or unwilling to improve and grow
We look forward to hearing from you!
