Common use cases

Best window coverings for commercial offices

Heat that is taxing your HVAC?
Glare that is interrupting presentations?
Everyone re-arranging their desk angle at 3pm because they can’t see their computer screen?
Need the convenience of motorization?

Whatever your problem, we have a solution.
Here are a few examples

Automobile Manufacturer

The need: Convenience and functionality while reducing sun glare.

This client had a conference room with a wall of windows. Those windows were great for letting in light, but less than convenient when presentations were being made.

The solution: We provided motorized solar screen shades. The solar screen blocked much of the glare without totally blacking out the room. And the motorization integrated with their existing Crestron system.

With a push of a button, they could control all 15 shades.

Tanner Elementary School

The need: Affordable window covering that would put teachers in control of how much sun and heat came into their classroom.

In the summer of 2025, Tanner Elementary, in Athens, AL, was doing a massive renovation. We were called in by the GC on the project to handle the window treatment needs.

The solution: 68 faux wood blindslater, and the students, teachers and staff of Tanner had the much needed light control to facilitate learning and focus.

We completed the installation on Labor Day so as to not disrupt the students. Teachers left school on that Friday with paper in their windows and came back after the 3-day weekend to beautiful new blinds instead.

Tatitlek Corporation

The need: Block the sun, keep the view.

Tatitlek was at the tail end of the new building construction. Over on Wynn drive, they were adding a new building to their property and were moving all the offices to this new building.

As anyone who has spent a single summer in Huntsville knows, the sun is intense. The need was straightforward - β€œwe need shades that will help keep the heat out and cut down on the glare to our computer screens.”

The solution: Solar screen shades. Most of the offices received a chain controlled shade. VIP offices received motorization. Before departing we paired each remote-shade combo, and labeled each remote with the name of the executive whose shades it controlled.

Medical Office

The need: Tame the afternoon sun so my office staff can work.

This Madison facility has two floors and a bunch of windows. About a year after initially doing most of their facility with roller shades, we received another call. Then another one. Little by little, we covered the few remaining windows.

Office staff was moving their chairs in the afternoon to stay out of the glare. β€œI’m so sorry” was a regular greeting for clients with afternoon appointments, as they would walk into the blazing glare.

The solution: Light filtering shades. Chain controlled shades making it easy for the staff to adjust light control as the sun moves across the sky. For the higher windows, we provided an extended chain so that staff could reach the controls.

Commercial Clients

We work with the people responsible for making it happen.

Whether you're a project manager coordinating a facility move, a facility coordinator managing an office renovation, or an operations director who needs 60 windows treated on a timeline we work directly with you. No runaround, no hand-off to a call center.

An empty office with large windows and a ceiling with bright fluorescent lights. There is a desk with a chair, a computer monitor, and some office supplies. The office has a gray carpet and beige walls, with a parking lot and trees visible outside.

Healthcare & Professional Facilities

Medical offices, clinics, and professional service environments where light control, privacy, and clean appearance matter. We install treatments that function well, look right, and hold up in high-traffic commercial environments.

New Construction & Renovation Projects

If you're coordinating window treatments as part of a larger construction or renovation project, we work directly with GCs, project managers, and owners' reps. We integrate into your schedule and deliver to your spec.

Office & Corporate Facilities

Open floor plans, conference rooms, executive offices, and common areas. We spec and install treatments that manage glare on monitors, reduce heat load, and give you light control without disrupting the look of the space. Solar screen shades and roller shades are our most-specified commercial products.

Government Contracting Facilities

We have direct experience with government facility moves and renovations in the Huntsville area β€” including Redstone Arsenal-adjacent facilities and government contracting operations throughout Madison County. We understand timeline requirements, documentation expectations, and what it means to deliver without excuses on a government job.

Large-Scale & Multi-Window Installs

High-volume installs, oversized windows, unusual configurations β€” we've handled it. We don't subcontract commercial work. Our own team measures, orders, and installs everything. That's how we stay on schedule and maintain consistency across a large project.

An office space with exposed brick walls, large windows with black frames, a desk with a computer, a chair, a wooden cabinet, and a round table with chairs, illuminated by ceiling fluorescent lights.
A classroom window with blue blinds showing a blue sky with white clouds outside. The classroom wall has a yellow clock, a sign that says 'Hive Helpers' with bee illustrations, and a vertical 'Tasks' chart with various classroom chores listed.

The Problem

Most commercial window treatment vendors overpromise and underdeliver. You've probably experienced it.

The quote comes in fine. The timeline sounds reasonable. Then the installation gets pushed, the product doesn't match what was spec'd, and you're coordinating with someone's call center trying to find out where your order is.

That's a franchise problem. And it's a bigger-company problem. Companies that use subcontractors for installation don't control their own schedule β€” and when something goes wrong, there's no one accountable.

You're likely dealing with one or more of these:

Glare killing productivity β€” Open-plan offices with south or west-facing windows create real screen-glare problems throughout the afternoon. It's not a minor inconvenience. It affects how people work.

Heat load driving up energy costs β€” Large windows without proper solar treatment add significantly to HVAC load. Solar screen shades with the right openness level can reduce heat gain measurably.

A renovation or move with a real deadline β€” You need the windows treated before the space opens. That means a vendor with a reliable timeline β€” not one who gives you a six-week estimate and then goes quiet.

Inconsistency across a large install β€” When treatments don't match from room to room, or installation quality varies, it reflects on the facility. You need a consistent result at scale.

How it Works

How our commercial window treatment process works.

Step 1 | Commercial Estimate & Site Assessment

We come to your facility and walk it with you, your PM, or your GC. We look at orientation, glare paths, mounting conditions, and how each space actually gets used. We ask questions to understand the problems you are solving for β€” no assumptions.

Step 2 | Specification & Product Selection

We’ll make recommendations, show product samples, and get measurements. Depending on the scope and specs of the product, sometimes we can quote on-site; if that isn’t possible, we’ll usually have the quote back to you within 3 business days. The proposal is always shared via email.

Step 3 | Coordinated Installation & Sign-Off

We’ll keep you updated on timelines and coordinate an installation date/time that is most convenient for you. No surprises. No drama.

Locally Owned β€”
Not a Franchise

We've been completing commercial window treatment projects in North Alabama since 1997.

That includes:

Government & Defense Contractor Facilities Huntsville sits in the heart of the U.S. defense and aerospace industry. We've worked with government contractors moving into or renovating facilities in the Madison County area β€” and we understand what that environment demands. Clear specs. Reliable timelines. Professional installation. Documentation if required.

Office & Corporate Renovations We've installed commercial window treatments for offices ranging from 10 windows to 100+. Open floor plans, conference rooms, executive suites, reception areas β€” we understand how each space functions differently and specify accordingly.

High-Volume, Multi-Phase Projects Large projects require coordination. We've handled multi-phase installations across facilities where not all spaces are ready at the same time β€” sequencing our install schedule to match the construction or renovation timeline.

The Honest Difference We're not a franchise, and we don't subcontract. The company that bids your job is the company that installs it. That matters for accountability, consistency, and your ability to reach someone when you have a question.

Why Choose Us

Why commercial project managers choose Blinds and Borders over franchise competitors.

We Don't Subcontract Every commercial installation is completed by our own team. No third-party crews that we can't vouch for. This is how we maintain consistent quality across a large project β€” and how we stay accountable when something needs to be corrected.

We Work Directly With Your Project Manager No call center, no account handoff. You have a direct line to the people doing the work. If the renovation schedule changes, we adjust. If a spec needs to change mid-project, we communicate. Commercial jobs move fast and plans change β€” we know how to keep up.

We've Done Government Work Huntsville's defense and government contracting sector is a significant part of our commercial business. We understand what government facility work requires β€” and we've delivered on it repeatedly. We are registered with SAM and ready to get started on your project.

We're Local and Independent Franchise competitors have territory restrictions, corporate pricing structures, and service limitations that a local project can't always accommodate. We're locally owned and flexible. We've solved problems on commercial jobs that franchise companies couldn't or wouldn't handle.
